Cupid’s arrow is at the ready and on Thursday – Valentine’s Day – he will be aiming it at everyone’s heart.

The display windows of every mall in town have got into the romantic mood, with teddy bears holding hearts declaring “I love you”. And florists anticipate a rush on long-stemmed red roses.

What do you have planned? Two events are already on the diary – it is just matter of which artist’s music resonates with you.

Decade of celebrating

Afro-soul singer Vusi Nova is celebrating his 10th annual evening of love show at the Sun Arena in Pretoria.

After all the minuses and pluses, from Carl Thomas postponing his tour to South Africa to a two-night show turning into a one-night show, it is finally happening.

The international sensational rhythm-and-blues singer has postponed his tour to South Africa due to “unforeseen circumstances”, said the organisers of the event.

But all is not lost as the show is still going on. Expect international YouTube couple, Gabes and Anna, and some “whoo shem” from Somizi Mhlongo. Also on the list are comedian and actor Moshe Ndiki as the emcee, veteran singer Ringo Madlingozi, Thami Shobede from Season 12 of Idols SA and Thabsie. And Ntsika from The Soil will release a single from his new album on the night.

Nova will perform from his new album – Manyan-Nyan – which has already hit platinum.

Nova told City Press that revellers should expect fire, fire and more fire.

He has fully recovered after his recent health scare. He suffered a panic attack that landed him in hospital last month.

After cancelling his two previous gigs, on his doctor’s orders, the As’phelanga hitmaker said he was ready to give his fans a bang of a show.

Despite his relationship of five and half years failing, the Afro-soul singer still believes in love.

“I am 110% sure that there is someone out there for me.”

He says he is single – and available – and he might even find a new love at the show.

Cool dads find a love potion

After six months of planning, the Cool Dads Foundation, a non-profit organisation, is sure to sweep you off your feet as it brings you a serenading production – the Love Potion Concert. Its programme includes all the challenges experienced in relationships, gender-based violence, lies, happiness and compassion.

But love is the name of the game on Thursday at the Big Top Arena, Carnival City, with some dazzling performances by AmaBlesser hitmaker Mlindo The Vocalist, Amanda Black, Sjava and Thando Mngomezulu, who finished in the top three of last year’s Idols SA.

This fundraising event was founded by Bongani Luvalo, who grew up with an absent father. Luvalo vowed he would not treat his children like that, saying it’s not the kind of life he wants for his kids.

Black said she would spend the day with those who are dear to her while getting ready for the special performance.

“I can’t wait for fans to hear my new song, Thandwa Ndim, live,” an excited Black said.

She said she supported the organisation that stood for a great cause.

“This organisation promotes love and uplifts values and I support Cool Dads.”

Mlindo The Vocalist is unsure of what he will be doing on the day prior to the evening of love event.

What he is sure of is that he has a gig to prepare for.

“It won’t be a normal Valentine’s Day for me,” he said.

He is supporting this “worthwhile” event because it has a spirit of love and sharing.

Luvalo said his foundation’s aim was to put a stop to the society that continues to embrace and perpetuate a fatherless society.
