It’s official. Flamboyant choreographer and Idols judge Somizi Mhlongo will star in a new reality show with his beautiful 21-year-old daughter, Bahumi.

After months of speculation that Mhlongo would have his own reality show, Mzansi Magic and M-Net public relations head Nondumiso Mabece confirmed this week that the channel is working with him on a show about his life.

Idols viewers have been saying that Mhlongo deserves a show so they can observe his luxurious lifestyle and get to know his daughter, whom he fathered with actress Palesa Madisakwane. He was once quoted as saying: “Fatherhood is amazing. I never asked for advice on how to be a father. I did it my way.”

The greatest lesson he’s taught her? “Stay hungry, and you’ll never go hungry.”

Mhlongo refused to comment, but Mabece said: “The programme will feature people Somizi spends his life with and the illustrious career he is known for.”

She would not divulge details, saying only that it will start within the next two months and the show’s format has been in development for some time. Pilot episodes, she said, had already been filmed.

Madisakwane, who does not feature in the show, told City Press this week that she would support Bahumi’s decision. “When she was approached, she came to me excitedly. I did not put her off. Being in the industry, I will always protect her.”

It seems Bahumi, who is studying towards a BCom Law degree at Varsity College, is following her parents’ showbiz example. In September, a US TV station, TLC, asked talented Africans to post their presenting videos for auditions and Bahumi made it to the semifinals.
