Someone once said that sometimes the most productive thing you can do is relax. If that’s the case, you can be very productive at the Soulstice Day Spa. At the Silverstar Casino and Hotel, the spa offers several packages.
I got the chance to experience 30 minutes in the Rasul Chamber, which is a Middle Eastern mud ritual. You enter a 40°C heated steam room, which can accommodate up to six people, and are handed two small steel bowls. In the one is a sugar scrub, in the other is mud.
The mud is Rhassoul clay from the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. After applying the scrub and sitting for 10 minutes, you rinse off in the shower in the steam room. Then you apply the mud all over your body and sit back again for another 10 minutes. I was not fond of the hard-tiled seating. But maybe lying down after being transformed into a muddy queen might not work.
In retrospect, the chamber session would be nicer if you took along a friend or partner. This would help getting full mud coverage on your back, too. After letting the steam and mud work, the room has a rain-simulated shower that washes it all off, leaving your skin soft and smooth.
Besides the Rasul Chamber, the spa has a variety of treatments, including group and couple packages, manicures and pedicures.
My visit started with a 30-minute back, neck and shoulder massage.
If you’re pregnant, there’s a 60-minute mother-to-be massage option. Specific prenatal techniques are used to help relieve tired muscles, increase circulation and relieve mental and physical fatigue.
The massage room is fitted with special lighting which my well-trained therapist, Lydia Madonsela, said incorporates colour therapy during massages. The client can choose the background music.
If you’re planning a visit, they suggest coming an hour before your booked treatments so you can enjoy using the steam room, indoor heated hydrotherapy pool and the outdoor swimming pool.
