Gigaba: 'We should all insist on the independence of SARB'

Minister of Finance, Malusi Gigaba, says his office is busy engaging with the Public Protector in an attempt to understand her recent recommendations with regard to the South African Reserve Bank (SARB). 

Gigaba addressed members of the business community during a PBF-breakfast at the African National Congress (ANC)'s national policy conference. 

"My view is that the Public Protector does not have the power to direct Parliament to amend the Constitution," Gigaba said. 
He added that the recommendations should have been been directed to the finance ministry.
