One shopper, identified only as Islam, was pushing a trolley of goods shortly after 07:00 on Friday, said he got 100% off some deals and bought a few items on 50%.
Islam was one of the shoppers who joined the queues at Canal Walk in Century City, Cape Town.
In Soweto, shoppers had their trolleys ready in a queue snaking around the parking lot waiting for the Shoprite at Jabulani Mall to open at 07:00.
A shopper, who did not want to be named, said she joined the line at 05.30.
"We saw some specials on the items we normally buy so I'm here with my mother and son," she said.
She added that she didn't need to alter her budget as the items she came for are in her usual grocery list.
