WATCH: No reason for students to be treated like criminals - Wits lecturer

One fees must fall leader has been arrested following unrest at the University of Witwatersrand on Tuesday morning.

There has been heavy police presence in front of the Great Hall at the main campus were a group of students gathered.

Stun grenades were fired to disperse the crowd.

Social Sciences lecturer Kelly Gillespie condemned the violence.

"The students have raised important questions for us to be considering and there is no reason why they should be locked up and treated like criminals on campus," Gillespie said.
