WATCH: Shots fired as robbers blow up cash-in-transit van near Pretoria

accreditation

A video showing robbers blowing-up a G4S van on the N4 West, 15km from Brits Plaza outside of Pretoria on Thursday, has emerged.

Eye witness, Dylan de Brouwer, who was part of the slow traffic due to the cash-in-transit, says he thought he was approaching an accident until he saw the G4S van on the side of the road.

"I looked and saw the G4S van explode and saw money going everywhere, so I realised it was a cash-in-transit heist."

"I went back in my car and took my cell phone and I heard shots."

The onlooker added that he saw an Audi next to the van.

Constable Matsobane Mabusela said that the nine suspects started firing shots on the cash delivery truck tires until it lost control.

"The suspects ordered the security guards to go out of the van, set explosives on the cash safe and managed to get away with an undisclosed amount of money."

G4S Spokesperson, Wendy Hardy, confirmed the robbery and encouraged anyone with information to report it to the police.

"Thankfully none of our staff were injured during this attack. Robbers fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money,” she said.

Investigations are under way.
