If there’s one thing you can say about Lady Skollie, it’s that she’s incredibly talented, and her talent was recently recognised at the 1:54 African Contemporary Art Fair in London (where she was represented by Tyburn Gallery) hosted at the Somerset House from 6-9 October.
Known for her playfully erotic paintings made from ink, watercolours and crayons, Lady Skollie, aka Laura Windvogel’s artwork is just one medium she uses to talk openly about subjects that are still seen as taboo like sex, sexuality, abuse and consent.
She’s not just painting pawpaws and bananas in playfully erotic fashion, she’s also starting conversations. Back in August, Lady Skollie wrote this piece for the Mail and Guardian about being angry about many things, “mostly pertaining to existing on this planet as a womxn.”

“It is my first show abroad. I have had opportunities to show in the U.K. before but it never felt like the right time. Now with the representation of Tyburn Gallery the time finally felt perfect. To represent South African art in an African Contemporary Art context is the biggest honour,” she said.
