After six months – four of which were under lockdown – Catherien was crowned winner of this year’s Absa/City Press Money Makeover, with Nono named as runner-up.
On Saturday, the six Money Makeover contestants – Bellah, Catherien, Colen, Mishack, Nono and Peter – got together virtually for the annual winner reveal. The competition kicked off on February 23 and four of the six contestants took a drop in income and had to cope with all the difficulties brought on by the sudden break in their lifestyles and livelihoods.

Yet they all fulfilled their money goals.
“Talking about money used to be this heavy thing, now we can even laugh about it,” says Catherien of her win.
The event was hosted by Maya Fisher-French, who oversees the six-month competition along with the contestants’ designated Absa financial advisers.
City Press editor in chief Mondli Makhanya gave each contestant a gift of R5 000, which was to strictly be spent on themselves after being so disciplined for six months.
